Watch 12: Trivia

To somewhat revitalize my watching experience, I’ve decided to pepper in some trivia about the movie/cast that I found interesting during this viewing.

• The shoes Rainn Wilson wore during his opening scene were Nike Air Jor­dan 1 Sneak­ers. They cost $415.
• Jaxx’s pronouns are only addressed once in this movie. All other occasions take care to use gender neutral terms: “You’re a good person Jaxx.” This may or may not have been intentional, but considering Ruby Rose’s genderfluid identity, it’s an unexpectedly nice thing to notice.
• The boat that is used when they kill the first Meg is named Charlotte. This could be an homage to the ship at the beginning of National Treasure (both films having been directed by Jon Turteltaub).
• Jason Statham nearly participated in the Olympics two years in a row. He was on the diving team during the qualifying tournament and came in third both years (only the top two go to the Olympics).
• There are a number of references to Jaws throughout the movie. For example, the Meg getting caught on the three floating rafts is a nod to the three barrels that were dragged around by the shark near the end of Jaws.
